        Tomahawk
     Celebrates

In July 2026, the United States will mark its 250th anniversary – and DAR is preparing to celebrate

at the local and national level! Explore the ways the National Society and DAR chapters plan to leave

a lasting impact through meaningful projects and events during this anniversary.

During the Revolutionary War, the Sons of Liberty often convened under the nation's original Liberty Tree in Boston, to discuss their opposition to British rule. This historic tree became a beacon of hope to colonists and a symbol of American freedom.

In an attempt to disillusion the colonists, the British destroyed

Boston's Liberty Tree.

Today, as Tomahawk looks ahead to the semiquincentennial we move forward with our America 250 Liberty Tree project, while maintaining conservation awareness.

Our America 250 chair is heading up our chapter’s mission of funding a Liberty Tree to be planted in our city's Tomahawk Park on Arbor Day 2026. This is our chance to leave, in a small way, our mark upon our nation’s story.

In November 2024, we kicked off our America 250 celebration with the installation of a Little Liberty Library at Dwight Cowles American Legion Post 370. KSDAR Regent Rebecca Geist Kline was on hand to cut the ribbon that day and watch as the library was filled with books relating to our nation's birth.
